Australia’s First Ride In Ride Out Mountain Bike Community Launches Final Land Release

By Ray White Whitsunday

The Whitsundays are rapidly becoming the Adventure Tourism capital of Australia and one master planned community is blazing the trail

Just ten minutes from Airlie Beach, Hidden Valley Whitsundays has released the final residential homesites in its Marlow precinct, marking the last opportunity for buyers to secure land within what may be Australia’s first true ride in, ride out mountain bike master planned community.

Unlike traditional residential estates that happen to sit near recreational facilities, Hidden Valley has been designed around an active lifestyle. Residents will be able to leave their garage, roll onto purpose built mountain bike trails from their front door and access a growing network that winds through more than 700 acres of protected rainforest before returning home without ever loading a bike onto a car.

It is a concept more commonly associated with world renowned mountain biking destinations in Canada, New Zealand and Europe than regional Australia.

The project combines residential living with an ambitious eco tourism vision that includes mountain bike trails, hiking, nature experiences, future accommodation, hospitality and wellness facilities, creating a destination that aims to attract both permanent residents and adventure travellers.

One of the development partners Ashley Rees says the project was never intended to be another housing estate.

“Mountain biking has become one of Australia’s fastest growing outdoor sports, but until now there really hasn’t been a residential community where people can genuinely ride from their own driveway straight onto world class trails.”

“One of our residents started calling Hidden Valley the Whistler of the Whitsundays and we kinda like that.”

The timing is significant.

Adventure tourism continues to experience strong growth globally, while mountain biking has become a major economic driver for destinations such as Derby in Tasmania, Maydena, Rotorua in New Zealand and Whistler in Canada. Hidden Valley aims to create a similar experience in the Whitsundays while adding the appeal of tropical rainforest, year round riding conditions and proximity to the Great Barrier Reef.

15km of trails have already been completed and the network grows larger every day, with world renowned trail builders Contour Works leading the project delivery of an estimated 70kms of mountain bike and walking trails.

Rees believes buyers are increasingly seeking experiences rather than simply purchasing property.

“In an increasingly digital world, we are seeing more and more that people of all ages are looking for an excuse to just get outside and play. . Our mission has been to create a place where we’d want to live, where you’re compelled to get outside, to move, to connect with their neighbours and enjoy where they live.”

“When you can finish work, jump on your bike and be deep in rainforest within minutes, that’s a lifestyle that is incredibly difficult to replicate.”

The release also reflects a broader shift in the property market, with master planned communities increasingly differentiating themselves through lifestyle infrastructure rather than simply parks and playgrounds.

Future plans for Hidden Valley include eco accommodation, hospitality venues, community gardens, nature based experiences and expanded trail networks, positioning the precinct as both a residential community and tourism destination.

For mountain bikers, outdoor enthusiasts and buyers seeking something genuinely different, the final Marlow release represents an opportunity to become part of the foundation community before the broader vision unfolds.
