The Views Are Back: Airlie Beach Ferris Wheel Confirmed for May Return

By Ray White Whitsunday

It’s official! Following a hugely successful trial run, the Whitsunday Regional Council has confirmed that the iconic Ferris Wheel will be returning to the Airlie Beach Foreshore this year.

Locals and visitors can look forward to seeing the wheel back in its familiar spot, operating from May through to November.

Community Support Leads the Way

The decision comes after a period of community consultation where the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The Council reported that the majority of participants viewed the wheel as a “valued, family-friendly attraction” that brings a vibrant new energy to the coastline.

Key takeaways from the community feedback included:

  • A Boost for Local Business: Shop owners noted a “flow-on economic benefit” thanks to the increased foot traffic the wheel brings to the Foreshore.

  • Vibe & Atmosphere: The wheel is officially a favorite for its contribution to the Airlie Beach skyline and the unique sunset views it offers.

  • Reinvesting in Airlie: In a win for the town, a share of the profits generated from the Ferris Wheel’s use of public land will be reinvested back into Council facilities, helping to fund ongoing improvements for the local community.

Listening to the Locals

While the support was strong, the Council also noted feedback regarding lighting and the impact on other Foreshore events. Officials have stated they will consider these points in their future planning to ensure the activation works perfectly for everyone.

Whether you’re a local looking for a new perspective on your backyard or a visitor catching that perfect holiday snap, the return of the Ferris Wheel is set to make this winter season in Airlie one to remember.

Get ready to head skyward this May!
