IT WAS a successful week for local yacht Kameruka which took out best local boat of Airlie Beach Race Week after winning the Cruising Spinnaker 3 Division.

Kameruka is skippered by Bob Beale and the crew includes Mark Beale, Simon Brain, Steve Marks and Paul Skinner.

The yacht is an 8m clubman and is one of three clubmans in the area, which they race against every Wednesday in the Whitsunday Sailing Club’s twilight series.

Crew member Mark Beale said that besides wind instruments blowing off, the boat sailed perfectly for all six races.

The crew was faced with 15-35 knot winds and Steve Marks described the race as exhilarating.

“It was completely [the] opposite to last year. Last year there were sunny skies and [we] were looking for wind but this year there was rain and a lot of wind.

“It was exhausting but impressive for a boat that size to complete each race,” he said.

Kameruka is currently coming second place in the clubman championship of the Twilight races.
