Whitsunday Coast Airport flight numbers soaring

By Ray White Whitsunday

“More records than Sony music.” That’s how Acting Mayor Mike Brunker responded to the news that
Whitsunday Coast Airport (WCA) in April smashed the monthly highest passenger record.

The flight and passenger data at WCA for last month recorded 47,384 passengers transiting through the
airport.

“That is not only the highest figures record for the month of April but the highest ever monthly passenger
total, eclipsing the previous record in December 2018, of 45,058 travellers,” Cr Brunker said.

“The previous highest monthly total pax for April was 37,486 in 2019 so too eclipse that by nearly 10,000
proves that WCA is one of the fastest growing regional airports in Australia.

“Connectivity is key to making it easy for visitors to explore the Whitsunday region and the flow on
economic benefits to Bowen, Proserpine, Collinsville, and other areas is huge.

“We have hit over 220 flights monthly which means more passengers and equates to increased bums on
seats and bodies in beds to support our region’s tourism and business stakeholders.”

Whitsunday Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Aviation and Tourism, Craig Turner, said there was
perfect synergy with the Whitsundays becoming one of Australia’s most popular tourism desti nation’s and
WCA now recognised as one of the country’s fastest growing regional airports.

“Now that Australia and the world has opened for travel, the Whitsundays is perfectly positioned to cash in
economically.

“We have Jetstar, Virgin, Qantas and Skytrans already flying direct to the Whitsundays and with Bonza
Airline taking off later this year our flights numbers continue to soar.

“Our amazing airport team are never in cruise control and are already locked in talks with prospective new
airlines to find new routes, so stay tuned!”
