Squeaky Clean Streets For The Whitsundays

By Mark Beale

Our main streets are set to look better than ever thanks to a new eco-friendly street sweeper and scrubber purchased by Whitsunday Regional Council.

Deputy Mayor John Collins said early trials in the Airlie Beach main street had already produced efficient and effective results and the new piece of machinery was a fantastic asset for Council.

“The new street sweeper and scrubber will service the main street areas in Airlie Beach, Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville,” he said.

“These high use areas of our region require daily attention to keep our townships looking clean and welcoming for our residents and visitors; we will see first-class results.”

Ideal for diverse use in confined locations including footpaths, kerbs and outside shopfronts, Mr Collins said the sweeper had a range of adjustable brushes and a powerful suction for best results.

“Known as the environmentally friendly sweeper, it has an extensive water system to ensure optimal binding of dust and clean exhaust air, providing minimal disturbance to pedestrians and the environment,” he said.

“Once we have finalised trials for the use of the new sweeper, Council’s work crews will operate a maintenance schedule across the Whitsunday Region.”
