AIRLIE Beach continues to be a popular cruise ship destination for tourists, with several boats docking in town this week.
Whitsundays Marketing and Development chief executive officer Danial Rochford said this week that the cruise ship visits continued to boost the local economy.
“Cruise Down Under, Australia’s peak industry body for cruise shipping, has recently assessed that the cruise shipping industry contributes $13million to in gross domestic product to the economy of the Whitsunday region, he said.
On Monday the Pacific Dawn arrived and was followed by Sea Princess on Tuesday.
There’s more to come with Pacific Jewel expected to arrive on Tuesday, July 8. Pacific Jewelwill spend seven nights at sea, leaving Brisbane before stopping in Airlie Beach en route to Port Douglas.
There are three cruise ships scheduled to arrive in the Whitsundays in July and another four in August.
