Flash mob surprises shoppers

By Mark Beale

A FLASH mob has surprised local shoppers at Whitsunday Plaza on the weekend.

“There would have been 100 people I guess just standing there watching them, which is exactly what we wanted,” Dee Jays School of Dance principal Denise Hadley, who organised the event, said.

Twenty of the school’s dance troupe hid among the crowd before bursting forward to dance to their remix of Outkast’s hit song “Hey Ya!” entitled “Straya”.

“They just had to wear their normal civi [civilian] clothes and then when the music started off they went,” Ms Hadley said.

The event was to get people talking about the dance school’s theatre dinner at the Whitsunday Arts and Cultural Centre (WACC) this Saturday night, with fliers handed out after the performance.

The show stars nine dance groups from Dee Jays, a contortionist and singers.

Tickets are available by contacting the WACC or visiting their website at http://www.thewacc.com.au/
