Cruise into family fun this Sunday

By Mark Beale

THE entire community is invited to the new Cruise Whitsundays maritime terminal at Port of Airlie, for a free Family Fun Day, this Sunday, September 14.

From 10am-1pm the terminal will be filled with Cruise Whitsundays giveaways and balloons for the kids, plus a jumping castle and barbeque in the outdoor area at the front. HOT FM will be broadcasting live from the site and there will be plenty of promotion for Cruise Whitsundays’ latest Willy Wonka style Golden Ticket promotion.

Under this fortnight-long initiative, anyone who checks in between 6.30-8am and 11am-12 noon, puts themselves in the running for a random Golden Ticket prize of a free island hopper pass.

Cruise Whitsundays sales manager, Tracy Evans, said the company was excited about the move to the new terminal and wanted to share it with the community at large.

“Because this is such a big development for Airlie Beach, it really does need to be seen firsthand to understand the scope of it, so we’re having the Fun Day to invite people to have a look for themselves and enjoy the celebrations with us,” she said. Executive director of Cruise Whitsundays parent company Marine Tourism Management Limited (MTM), Peter Murphy, agreed this was a great community asset and possibly the best terminal of its kind in the entire South Pacific.

“I’d be stunned if there’s something better than this,” he said. Nonetheless, Mr Murphy said the most important thing about the new building was not its state-of-the-art check-in facilities, or modern baggage handling capabilities, or even the new retail store or Denmans Cafe.

“The best thing about this building is the people in it,” he said. Cruise Whitsundays CEO Nick Hortle re-iterated these sentiments, extending a warm welcome to the community and an invitation to visit the terminal both on the Family Fun Day and beyond.
