Official Opening Celebrations – Foreshore Fiesta – 29 June
Whitsunday Regional Council will be holding official opening celebrations at the new Foreshore on Saturday 29 June, from 2pm – 6.30pm.
Construction Update
The Airlie Beach Foreshore Revitalisation is now in the final stages of construction. Construction began in September 2018 and will be completed in mid 2019, weather permitting. Construction work takes place Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 6.30am and 6.30pm.
Background
The Airlie Beach Foreshore is an important feature of the Whitsunday region for tourists and locals alike. It is valued for it’s beautiful bay and island views, relaxing lagoon and regular markets, festivals and events.
In 2016, the Airlie Beach community were asked to have their say about the proposal for revitalisation of the area, which outlined improvements to infrastructure, multipurpose areas and the beautification of surrounds. After extensive consultation Option A was chosen as the preferred option, with the markets remaining in their current popular location.
On 28 March 2018 Council unanimously voted to approve the detailed design for the $6.3 million project.
$4.8 million of this project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program.
Eligible works will be funded under the Commonwealth and State Government Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
