2014-15 to be best year ever at airport

By Mark Beale

Whitsunday Coast Airport is set to achieve its best year on record in the 2014-15 financial year with passenger numbers forecast to be between 270,000 and 280,000. For the 2014-15 financial year the airport is forecast to experience 10% growth, which will result in a total direct tourism industry contribution by inbound passengers of approximately $200 million. These passenger number forecasts for 2014-15 exceed passenger numbers from before the Global Financial Crisis, showing increased confidence and growth in the local economy and tourism industry. These forecasts follow a very successful 2013-14 year for the Whitsunday Coast Airport, where the airport experienced an increase in carriers, flights and passengers; interest in local and international investment expanded and the process for a designation of a Priority Development Area (PDA) over the airport commenced.
