Stinger net to be installed at Cannonvale Beach

By Mark Beale

WHITSUNDAY Regional Council today endorsed an agreement with Uninet to provide a stinger net swimming enclosure at Cannonvale Beach until 30th June 2016.

Mayor Jenny Whitney said Council is pleased to be able to provide a safer swimming environment over the summer months for people in the Cannonvale area.

“The purpose of the stinger enclosure net is to keep larger marine stingers and potentially dangerous marine animals out of a designated swimming area,” she said.

“The swimming enclosure net enables people to swim in the ocean during the “stinger season” which is from October to May.

“The stinger enclosures are less effective against smaller marine stingers such as the Irukandji jelly fish.”
