Proposed Whitsunday Air Racing and Air Show

By Mark Beale

At today’s Council meeting, Whitsunday Regional Council noted F1 Aviation Pty Ltd’s interest in conducting a proposed Whitsunday Air Racing and Air Show scheduled for 25-27 September, 2015 at Whitsunday Coast Airport.

Mayor Jenny Whitney said F1 Aviation Pty Ltd has expressed an interest in conducting the proposed three day event at Whitsunday Coast Airport.

“The event would be an air show and air racing experience with a practice day scheduled for the Friday, following with public open days on the Saturday and Sunday,” she said.

“If this were to proceed it would be Australia’s second largest aviation event for 2015, after the Avalon Air Show, which is an exciting opportunity for the Whitsunday region.

“It is estimated that between 15,000 and 30,000 people would attend the three day event, which would directly contribute about $13 million to the local economy with many millions more in flow on effects for the local tourism industry.

“The event would also provide global exposure of the Whitsunday region, with the television broadcast of the event expected to reach hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

“F1 Aviation Pty Ltd has spent three years searching the east coast of Australia for a suitable location for their air show and the Whitsunday Coast Airport is their best and preferred option,” she said.
