Initiatives to observe Airport Safety Week

By Mark Beale

HIGH visibility shirts will be more noticeable than ever at the Whitsunday Coast Airport, where Airport Safety Week, an Australasian Airport Industry initiative to promote safety, is currently underway from September 29-October 3.

Whitsunday mayor Jennifer Whitney said by taking part in safety week, the Whitsunday Coast Airport was demonstrating to the community and the travelling public “our commitment and determination to maintain a safe environment for all airport users”.

Cr Whitney said a number of activities would be conducted throughout the week, including an internal and external hazard inspection, undertaken by all stakeholders at the airport.

“This involves Council employees, airline partners, ground crew, security staff and café operators identifying potential hazards around the airport and gives employees the opportunity to have input on the safety of their work environment,” she said.

Tomorrow (Friday) will be ‘High Visibility Day’, with all staff wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the day, while going about their normal roles.
