Construction To Begin At Shute Harbour In March 2019

By Ray White Whitsunday

The detailed design for the new facility at Shute Harbour was adopted this week by Whitsunday
Regional Council, with works expected to begin from March 2019.
The new terminal and jetties will replace the buildings damaged by Cyclone Debbie, which were
demolished earlier this year.
The final design features a two-floor terminal with views over the water, café facilities, a new carpark,
new public amenities, landscaping and three finger pontoon jetties, including a designated
recreational fishing pontoon.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said the detailed design has provided a modern facility that will be both a
functional space for operators and an iconic destination for visitors.
“The new facility will bring Shute Harbour back to life and create more opportunities for tourism and
commercial investment,” he said.
“The design has also cleverly incorporated some of the history and legacy of the old facility, with
timber recycled from the demolished jetties to be used in the façade of the new terminal building.”
“The new terminal has been designed with future expansion and opportunity in mind, so Council can
continue to grow the facility if needs change in the future.”
A tender for construction is expected to be released in early January 2019.
Eligible works have been jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under
the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
