Call For Action On Main Road

By Mark Beale

State Member for Whitsunday Jason Costigan and Shadow Transport Minister Fiona Simpson have called for action to be taken on a portion of Shute Harbour Rd in Cannonvale.

Mr Costigan pointed out the bottle-neck section of the road, near Baybreeze resort, during Ms Simpson’s visit to the Whitsundays last week.

Mr Costigan said it was important that the state-owned road – which sees two lanes merge into one, and then back out to two lanes in the space of a few hundred metres – was fixed.

“There are a lot more human beings that will take up residence in places such as the Regatta Waters estate and other estates in Cannon Valley,” he said.

“We need to get the ball rolling on this. It’s only going to become more of an issue as time goes on.”

Ms Simpson, who also viewed the roadworks at Waterson Way in Airlie Beach, agreed it was dangerous.

“I think there’s a strong case here to fight to see this (road changed),” she said.
